Which Yakry camera fits your vehicle
Seven vehicles, the problem each one sets, and the shelf that answers it. Then six things worth settling before the box arrives.
By vehicle
| What you are reversing | The problem it sets | What to take |
|---|---|---|
| Car, SUV or hatchback | Short run, close dash | A 4.3 or 5-inch kit |
| Pickup or work truck | Long bed, arm's-length dash | A 7-inch kit, wired or wireless |
| Van with solid rear doors | No mirror view at all | A monitor that takes a second camera |
| Camper, motorhome or fifth wheel | Forty feet and a refrigerator in between | A long-range RV system |
| A rig that came pre-wired | A bracket and power already above the window | The Furrion-ready kit and a pig tail plug |
| A monitor already on the dash | One camera, and a blind side left over | An add-on camera for your system |
| A rear-facing child seat | The seat faces the trunk | A baby car camera |
Six checks
What to settle before you order
None of these takes longer than five minutes, and every one of them is a reason people order twice.
- 01
Measure the run
Under the sill trim, up the A-pillar, through the hinge at the tailgate, with a foot of slack at each end. Write the number down: it decides the cable and, on a long vehicle, whether a wire is worth running at all.
- 02
Count the steel
A radio link crosses a car easily and a loaded trailer badly. Over about thirty feet with appliances in between, take a system rated in hundreds of feet rather than tens.
- 03
Pick the screen by distance
Hold something screen-sized where the monitor will go and sit in the driving seat. If you have to lean toward it, you want seven inches. If it blocks a sightline, you want 4.3.
- 04
Decide when you need the picture
Only while reversing, or while towing as well? A monitor tapped into the reversing light wakes in reverse and sleeps again. A 12V or USB feed keeps it awake.
- 05
Check the plate frame
Open the tailgate and look at the clearance above the plate. Some frames sit proud enough that a camera housing will foul the bodywork when the door shuts.
- 06
Write down the system code
If you already own a monitor, this is the whole compatibility question, and it is printed on the back of it.
Every shelf
Where the Yakry range is kept
Two kinds of complete system, one for rigs, and the shelves that are not a system at all.
- Backup cameras for cars and trucks · a driveway, a bumper, a bollard
- RV and trailer cameras · forty feet of rig, one picture
- Baby car cameras · the seat that faces the trunk
- Automatic pet feeders · dinner while you are out
- Dash cams, scanners and air purifiers · the rest of the cab
- Cables, brackets and add-on cameras · the part that finishes the job
- More from Yakry · not a camera for a vehicle
